Something about this date feels different but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I’m ready about an hour ahead of time because I’m that excited. Gannon told me we were going on a date and that was all, so I’ve decided to go semi-casual with a pair of skinny jeans, knee-high boots, and a pale pink sweater that ties in the back.

I wander down to the living room to find Bo and Hilary vegged out on the couch watching what looks like Lifetime.

Bo gasps loudly right as I sit down next to Hilary, tucking my legs under myself. “Oh no she didn’t. That bitch just doesn’t stop!”

Hilary laughs lightly, the movie cuts to commercial, and she hits the mute button. “Want to have a movie marathon with us?”

“Yeah,” Bo pipes up. “No way in hell my ass is going out in that.” He points to the wide front window where the snow is still lightly falling. Everything is blanketed in a sheet of white that glitters where the streetlights hit it. “You have to get your own snacks though because I’m not sharing.” He hugs his carton of ice cream a little tighter.

“No, actually I’m going out tonight.” I lick my lips, now a bit nervous. “With Gannon.”

Bo’s ears perk up and Hilary squeals, relieving the little bit of tension that I felt building about telling her. “You are? Really? I’m so excited he finally asked you. I could tell he’s liked you for a while, but I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t ask you out and he kept brushing me off every time I asked him.” Hilary claps her hands. “You’re going to have so much fun. You two are a lot more alike than you think.”

“Um…excuse me,” Bo interjects, raising a hand. “Who in the hell is Gannon?”

“Seriously, Bo?” Hilary sighs. “Zep is Gannon. Gannon is Zep.”

“I don’t call him Zep.” I roll my eyes at the nickname.

“O-h. Wait, what? You’re going on a date with Zep?” Now I can hear the excitement in his voice as he sits up on his knees. “You two. Together. Hmm…” He taps a finger to his chin. “That could be interesting. Definitely in the bedroom because the sexual tension between the two of you is so thick I don’t know how either of you function.”

“This is our first date,” I sputter.

“So, you’re saying you’re not easy?” He looks surprised by this fact, I’m not really sure why. “Okay, well when you two get to the bedroom–”

“Bo-Bo, stop talking.” Hilary slaps a hand over his chest. “I really don’t want to hear about Zep’s sex life. And Emmy won’t give into him too soon; she has to make him work for it.”

I throw my hands up in the air. “I don’t even know if there will be a second date!”

“All right, calm down, Emmeline. We’ll leave you alone for now.” Bo pushes up to his feet. “I need to make us some drinks. You want a pre-date one?”

I shake my head and he skips off to the kitchen.
